Biography

Carl Krenk, born in Vienna in 1880, was a landscape, history and genre painter, graphic artist and member of the Austrian Artists' Association. From 1896 - 1898 he attended the Manufakturzeichenschule and Lehranstalt für Textilindustrie, then until 1906 the Vienna Kunstgewerbeschule under W. Schulmeister, Alfred Roller, F. von Myrbach, Kolo Moser and C.O. Czeschka. In 1906 a scholarship brought him to Paris via Germany. From 1907 to 1908 he received his training as a painter at the academy under Heinrich Lefler. He remained loyal to the Lefler-Moser school until after the war. In a decorating studio in Vienna-Liesing he worked mainly on landscape themes from the surroundings of Vienna and the Wachau. He had a preference for watercolour and tempera, and his style, with its strong emphasis on drawing, is characterised by simplified forms and colours. His works were shown in numerous exhibitions. The artist died in Vienna in 1948.
