Xenia Hausner

Biography

Xenia Hausner was born in Vienna in 1951 as the daughter of painter Rudolf Hausner. She first studied stage design at the Academy of Arts in Vienna and at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. From 1975 to 1992, she designed over one hundred sets for theatre and opera productions, including Covent Garden in London, the Burgtheater in Vienna, the Theâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels and the Salzburg Festival. She has owned a studio in Berlin since the early 1980s. Since 1992, she has devoted herself exclusively to painting.

Focusing on people, mainly women, her colourfully explosive painting is often presented in a stage-like setting. Xenia Hausner lives and works in Berlin, Vienna and Hong Kong. She is among the most renowned contemporary artists and is especially well known for her acrylic paintings and mixed media works.
