Biography

Gabi Trinkaus

Gabi Trinkaus was born in Graz in 1966 and studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. With her collages from colourful glossy magazines, she has catapulted herself into the Olympus of the art scene. The resounding success of her unmistakable works, on the one hand portraits, which she herself likes to subsume as "heads", and on the other large nocturnal cityscapes from a bird's-eye view, which on closer inspection show a high degree of abstraction, have made the artist known worldwide overnight. Her collages have been shown at the most important international art fairs such as Art Basel, Frieze in London, the Armory Show in New York, the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art and the ViennaFair, and are in major museums and numerous private collections, including the Museum der Moderne, Salzburg, the Neue Galerie, Graz and the Belvedere in Vienna, the New Britain Museum of American Art in New Britain, Connecticut, and the Eskilstuna Artmuseum in Sweden. Collections include the BA-CA Kunstforum, Vienna, the Bernhard and Elisabeth Hainz Collection, Vienna, which houses one of the artist's first head collages, the Ivo Moser Collection, Natters, the Peter Nobel Collection in St. Gallen, and the Donna Karan Collection in New York.

The artist lives and works in Vienna.
