Biography
Ernst Graner was born in Werdau (Saxony) in 1865 and, after training as a goldsmith and lithographer, studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts from 1885 to 1890 under Franz Rumpler and Eduard Peithner von Lichtenfels. He was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus from 1910. The painter, who also created genre and landscape paintings in his early years, became known for his numerous watercolours depicting Vienna at the time of the monarchy. The artist died in Vienna in 1943.
