Biography

Erwin Wurm

Erwin Wurm is one of the most important contemporary artists in the world today. He has been reinterpreting sculptural art for more than 35 years, questioning classical approaches to sculptural technique in innovative, humorous and ambiguous ways. His work includes material sculptures, actions, videos, photographs and drawings. The "One Minute Sculptures", created from 1996 onwards, have contributed significantly to his international fame: People pose with everyday objects and, guided by the artist, perform certain actions for one minute and become art objects themselves for this period. The viewer is confronted with unusual situations that deviate from the norm, objects are misappropriated, the human body becomes an object of balance. It is a "rebellion against reason and logic"¹. The big question of what art is and may be is illuminated in a completely new way. In various series of works, the artist explores the boundaries of the sculptural technique again and again. Erwin Wurm has received several awards for his artistic achievements and has exhibited his work in renowned galleries and museums worldwide, most recently in Paris, Seoul and Taipei, as well as in London, Berlin, Hong Kong, Marseille, Vancouver, Denmark and Korea, to name just a few of the exhibition venues of recent years.
