Markus Prachensky's early years were marked by restlessness and the search for artistic recognition, which the artist initially hoped to find in Germany. He worked in studios in Aschaffenburg, Karlsruhe, Berlin and Stuttgart, returning to Vienna again and again in between. During these years, the artist's formal language is diverse and oscillates between the poles of gestural expressiveness and condensed form.

"It's about writing. About calligraphy. The images want to be read. The indecipherable of the signs wants to be understood. No. It is about felt gestures. About spontaneity. It is about power and energy, not deliberation and calculation. No. It is about architecture. So it is about construction. About statics and immovable solidity. About the harmony of parts. About propositions. It is about all this and yet about something completely different." (Markus Prachensky)

The path to his later work, in which Markus Prachensky inscribes himself in art history as a master of Informel in various series, is paved and finds expression in pictures such as "California revisited", "Cinque Terre" and "Farnesina Dixie".
