Biography

Casagrande & Recalcati

Sandra Casagrande, born in Milan in 1968, and Roberto Recalcati, also born in Milan in 1969, form the artist duo Casagrande & Recalcati. The two met while studying architecture at the Milan Polytechnic. In 2000, they founded the studio Casagrande & Recalcati and worked on concepts that combine painting, design and architecture into a harmonious whole in the sense of a total work of art. For Costa Crociere they took on the complete artistic designing of several cruise ships. Since 2004 they have been working together on their partly larger-than-life still lifes, the "Ipervanitas" , on which they paint together and often simultaneously.

Their works are in various important private collections and have been presented in numerous exhibitions and art fairs in Italy and abroad. In 2011 they exhibited during the 54th Biennale di Venezia in the exhibition "Cracked Culture?/Eastern borders", and in 2017 at the Reali Poste in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Since 2012, their large painting "Flowers 07" can be admired in the Presidential Hall of the Palazzo della Regione Lombardia. Furthermore, they are responsible for various projects in the residences of Dolce & Gabbana and for Fendi Casa. In Italy they are among the best known contemporary artists. They live and work in Milan.
