In "La morte e il sole in fiume Lete" ("Death and the Sun in the River Lethe", cat.no. 89), the current of Greek mythology flows diagonally through the picture. Karin Pliem's river transports "all kinds of psychological and emotional ballast away. Images and data that we no longer need or can process" . Set pieces of ancient cultures, such as the sun god of Greek and Roman mythology, Helios or Sol, and a Byzantine capital of the Hagia Sophia appear in the picture, washed to the shore by the river of forgetfulness and densely interwoven with plants, an octopus and other creatures.
