Biography

Karin Pliem, born in 1963 in Zell am See, studied from 1983 to 1987 at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna in the master class for sculpture with Wander Bertoni and in the master class for painting with Carl Unger and Adolf Frohner. During that time she also explored hand and tapestry painting and textile sculpture. This diverse education allowed her to take a variety of approaches on her artistic path, which ultimately led her to painting.
Numerous study trips took her all over the world as far as Tonga, Samoa, Rarotonga and New Zealand. She traveled to large parts of Europe, but also to Algeria, Laos, Thailand and Malaysia and explored the respective natural landscapes.
Karin Pliem's works have been shown at many exhibitions, including the Egon Schiele Center in Krumau, the Freiraum Q21 and the Kunsthalle Wien in the Museumsquartier, the Austrian Kulturform in Tokyo, the Traklhaus in Salzburg, the Kunsthaus Muerz, the NÖ Documentation Center for Modern Art in St. Pölten, the Bildraum Bodensee in Bregenz, as well as in Zurich, Cambridge, Berlin, Dresden, Hamburg, Montpellier, Trieste, Cologne and New York.
Works by the artist can be found, among others, in the MMKK Museum of Modern Art Carinthia in Klagenfurt, the Salzburg Museum and the Rupertinum in Salzburg, the MUSA Museum in Vienna, as well as in important private collections worldwide.
